Ladder Clamps

Transporting a ladder can be awkward and tricky, particularly if it is a longer extension ladder. Ladders typically won’t fit into the rear of a vehicle, so unless you have a van or pickup truck, your only real option is to attach the ladder to the roof of your vehicle.

Roof ladder clamps are essential for the safe and easy transportation of ladders on top of a vehicle by locking them down securely. This will not only secure your ladders against strong crosswinds, but also prevent the possibility of the ladders coming off your vehicle and causing a serious incident. Also, ladder clamps will reduce the risk of your ladders being stolen, as well as freeing up more space inside your vehicle for other important tools and materials.

Top tips for ladder transport

  • Prior to setting off, make sure the ladder is fully folded up and any locking mechanisms are suitably engaged.
  • If you don’t own a roof rack, you might want to put something between the ladder and the roof to protect your car’s paintwork, such as a blanket or a layer of foam.
  • Be careful when lifting the ladder onto the roof of your vehicle. You might need an extra pair of hands to move a heavy ladder into position. Don’t attempt a two-person job by yourself, be safe and cautious and get someone to help you if needed.
  • Most importantly, make sure your ladder is fully secure. Our high-quality ladder clamps are designed for this and the perfect choice for those needing to transport ladders.
  • Drive carefully, and always reduce speed accordingly when transporting ladders.

Securing your ladder to the rack

  • Inspect your roof bars/rack to ensure they are correctly fitted according to the vehicle manufacturer’s guidelines and in a serviceable condition.
  • Place your ladder on the roof bars, making sure there isn’t too much overhang on either end of your vehicle.
  • Pass the roof bar hook through the ladder and under one of the bars.
  • Screw the lock bar down onto the clamp until the ladder is firmly held.
  • When the ladder is secure, pass the padlock through the lockdown bar and clamp the bar to ensure the ladder stays secure.

How to use your roof ladder clamps safely

  • You should always use your ladder clamps in pairs, one at the front of your vehicle and one at the back.
  • Pass the threaded hook down through the ladder and under the roof rack bar.
  • Spin the handle down the thread clamping the tube down onto the ladder until the ladder is held secure with no movement.
  • Remember not to overtighten your clamps as this will lead to damage to both your roof rack and the clamp.
  • Regular lubrication of the thread will prolong the life of the clamp.
  • Don’t use the clamps if any parts are missing or damaged as this could cause failure and/or personal injury.
  • Do remove any loose objects from the ladder before the vehicle starts moving.
  • Avoid anything sticking out of the side of your vehicle when securing your ladders on top as this could be a risk to anyone passing by and to other road users.
  • Don’t use the ladder clamps for any other purpose than what they were designed for.
  • Don’t attempt to secure any other items to the roof of your vehicle, they are designed for ladder use only.
